Doula Pat dreamed of becoming an OB-gynecologist or pediatrician growing up. But it was in her high school biology class when she realized it was not meant to be. Still, things have a funny way of turning out, because now, Doula Pat devotes her life to working with mothers and babies as a fertility, birth, and postpartum doula. She is a Certified Maternal Support Practitioner under Bebo Mia, Inc (Canada).
Doula Pat's experiences with birth include a intervention-laden labor with her firstborn, with an epidural and episiotomy. For her second birth, she used the techniques taught in the Hynobabies®-Natural Childbirth Home Study Course to help prepare herself to achieve the opposite scenario. She labored with lots of movement, was able to eat and drink throughout, and followed her body's signals during the pushing stage of birth. She breastfed both her children for a total of 5 and a half years, while working full time in the corporate setting.
Her experiences with childbirth and breastfeeding has made Doula Pat an encouraging and supportive hand to mothers during their pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and early postpartum. She finds joy in talking to women and their families in their family-building journey, sharing with them about their options, and supporting them in their decisions as they go through each phase of their parenting journey.
Aside from breastfeeding, Doula Pat is an advocate of babywearing, and is a strong believer of using cloth diapers, cloth menstrual pads, homeopathic remedies, and other natural solutions such as essential oils and herbal concoctions.
As of writing, Doula Pat is also completing the requirements to become a Fertility Specialist.
